Abraham’s Intercession

Abraham’s Intercession

Message
Genesis 18

The Lord initiated the discussion of His plans.
18:16-21

The Lord reviewed His special relationship with Abraham
18-19

What did He say?
Judgment was imminent.

Abraham approached the Lord on behalf of the cities.
18:22-33

A bold move, but on basis
of relationship.

Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Abraham knew God was holy and just, but appealed to the Lord’s mercy.

Habakkuk 3:2, “…in wrath remember mercy”

James 2:13b “mercy triumphs over judgment”

Hosea 6:6, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice”

God always acts justly, but also carries out the sentence against sin.

Romans 2:2 “God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.

Romans 2:5 “But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath when His righteous judgment will be revealed.”

We who know the truth are called to pray for others.
1 Timothy 2:1-4

Mercy and grace are freely given to all who turn to Jesus by faith.

Abraham saw the result of God’s judgment.
19:27-29

God accomplished His purpose, but honored Abraham’s request.

We glorify God in His holy justice.

We glorify God for His mercy and grace shown to reluctant Lot.
