Abraham’s Call to Faith
The Lord’s command—
12:1, 4-5
Background: 11:31 home was in Ur of the Chaldeans
Command was to leave.
“So Abram left.”
The Lord’s promise—12:2-3
There are four “I will’s” contained in the promise
1. I will make you into a great nation.
2. I will bless you.
3. I will make your name great.
4. I will bless those who bless you.
A fifth “I will” in verse 7, “To your offspring I will give this land.”
NT call to faith rests on God’s promises:
Matthew 11:28, “Come unto Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Acts 10:43, “All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.”
Ephesians 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
Abram’s response: Worship—12:7b, 8b
Abram responded to the Person of God.
Abram built an altar and worshipped.
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
(John 5:24)
